Minami Fuyuki (2024)

Minami Fuyuki (冬木 美波, Fuyuki Minami) is the main female protagonist of the Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! manga and anime series. She is a student at Kitami Hokuryo High School and a Hokkaido gyaru.

At first, Minami is presented as the typical gyaru who is mindless at times. However, she is a highly perceptive person who values her relationships over her own feelings. When meeting Tsubasa Shiki, a city boy for the first time, she takes a liking to him and takes him under her wing. After living in Hokkaido her whole life, Minami soon learns Hokkaido can still be fun when with the right person by her side.

Background[]

Minami was born on Christmas Day and has lived in Hokkaido for her entire life. Since she was little, she has been known for her more gal personality, according to her childhood friend Erika. She was the center of attention, always bright and cheerful. She made friends with Erika after saving her from bullies, which in turn helped Erika befriend more people.

Minami would go to the Kitami Winter Festival every year as a child. She got used to the city of Hokkaido and the snowy cold weather as she lived there, even growing a tolerance to the cold as she got older.

Minami currently goes to Kitami Hokuryo High School where she is popular socially, but she does not fare very well academically.

Appearance[]

Minami is depicted as a young woman with dyed blonde hair that lays near her lower back, with buddha-like eyebrows (with Tsubasa claiming) that represents her generous heart. She also has enchanting blue eyes, a straight elegant nose, and luscious lips. Despite being a highschooler, she has a mature physique, having a very large bust just like her mother's^[2].

Minami typically wears the standard uniform of Kitami Hokuryo High School. The uniform consists of a long-sleeved blue unbuttoned blazer, and a gray skirt. However, Minami wears a bright pink undershirt, while girls like Sayuri where a black undershirt.

When out in the cold, Minami wears the same school outfit with a red scarf.

Personality[]

Minami's personality that of a typical gyaru. She is a cheerful girl who has a caring personality and always tries to live up to her classmates' expectations. Although she may come off as mindless at times, she is highly perceptive, often seeing through people's emotions and their hardships while avoiding her own for their happiness.

Being an extrovert, Minami is known to take things a little too far (mainly her teasing Tsubasa) and sometimes ends up being just as flustered herself. Minami easily gets flustered whenever thinking about Tsubasa romantically and their relationship. Due to her close friendship with Tsubasa, when Tsubasa gets close to someone else (especially females), Minami can get jealous and knowingly or unknowingly give him the cold shoulder. However, she grows to care even more about Tsubasa due to his caring and kind nature toward everyone.

Because of Tsubasa's honest and hardworking mindset, Minami starts to grow as a person. She becomes more willing to accept her feelings and being herself, even studying aboard in South Korea for two weeks at beauty school to become a make-up artist.

Relationships[]

Tsubasa Shiki[]

In Chapter 1, Minami met Tsubasa at a bus stop when he first arrived in Hokkaido. Minami was friendly toward him and even giving him directions. With Tsubasa being a newcomer, she tried making small talk with him. She learned about him being from Tokyo and immediately started asking more questions even learning that they are going to the same high school. Minami then cuddled up to Tsubasa's arm claiming it was cold and even asking if she should stop. Minami loved to tease Tsubasa even when they first met, taking a liking to him right away. She even got embarrassed when Tsubasa complimented her beauty.

Since the beginning, Tsubasa had some feelings for Minami, even if he didn't know it. He would hang at her house alone, or even go to festivals with Minami. It goes as far as everyone who interacts with Minami or Tsubasa assumes they are dating. As the months go by, Minami and Tsubasa grow a strong bond, to something more than close friends, but not lovers. Minami always grow tense when Tsubasa doesn't notice her romantic advances and usually plays it off, even if it hurts her emotionally. However, Minami finds the courage to expand herself because of Tsubasa's hard work and courage since moving to Hokkaido.

Both Tsubasa and Minami also help each other's family life. Minami is the reason both Tsubasa's grandmother and mother to agree to let him stay in Hokkaido after seeing his smile when Minami is around. While Tsubasa grows close to every single Fuyuki family member, even Minami's little sister and mother approved of him since the beginning.

Despite having obvious feelings for each other, both Tsubasa and Minami go through many roadblocks. Tsubasa asks Minami out, but due to a misunderstanding, Tsubasa believes he was rejected. After that misunderstanding, Minami and Tsubasa don't speak for quite some time. Minami rejects someone else stating she was still in love with someone else (Tsubasa). Minami then misunderstands a conversation between the Rena and Tsubasa believing they were dating, but Minami decides she won't let that stop her. They even decide to go out to shop for winter clothing together, getting matching scarfs (a plan made by Minami's little sister, Momo).

They even start studying together again, but this time, Tsubasa being more of a Tsubasa-sensi for Minami. They go to Minami's house to study, studying over phone calls at night, and even sleeping on call. It became a routine for the next several days. Then one day, Tsubasa meets Minami's father, who is impressed by Tsubasa in every way and approves of Tsubasa.

After many misunderstandings and support from their close friends, at midnight on Christmas and Minami's birthday, Minami asks Tsubasa if he would go out with her, to which Tsubasa enthusiastically accepts, and finally share their first direct kiss.

Sayuri Akino[]

Minami adored Sayuri from a far before they were even friends. However, at first, Sayuri is cold towards her advances and doesn't speak to her. During the ski trip, Minami saved Sayuri from an accident, Sayuri thanked her for her help and apologized for always being cold around her and the two became friends. Their friendship is so strong; Sayuri will throw hands if anyone talks down to Minami.

Despite being complete opposites, they got really close as friends, even becoming best friends soon after. Like Tsubasa, Minami accepts Sayuri with her faults and loves her tenfold. Then, Sayuri admits to Minami that she likes Tsubasa and will confess to him. Minami, who is known to values her relationships over her own feelings, couldn't find an answer for her own feelings. Sayuri sees through Minami but knows she can't change her mind.

When Minami rejects Tsubasa, Sayuri told Minami that Tsubasa truly loves her, but she can't help by think finally Minami is honest about her feelings and both agree to keep going until they have a satisfying ending.

Ultimately, when Tsubasa rejected Sayuri, she becomes one of her bestfriends' biggest cheerleaders.

Rena Natsukawa[]

Minami absolutely adores Rena saying she is a gyaru she wishes to be when she is reincarnated. Minami didn't become friends with Rena until Tsubasa introduced them to each other. Minami praises Rena for her hard work being smart and always looking pretty to which Rena reciprocates the love.

They don't seem to hang out as often, due to Rena always being busy, but always hang with the group doing activities together.

Etymology[]

• The name Minami means "beautiful" (美) (mi) and "wave, breaker" (波) (nami).
• Minami's surname Fuyuki means "winter" (冬) (fuyu) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki).

Trivia[]

• Minami follows the gal subculture; dyeing her hair blonde, wearing short skirts in winter and refusing to wear gloves in the winter so that she can still use her phone.
• Minami's date of birth is on December 25th, 2003.
• Minami is an excellent skier, like many of her classmates.
• Minami's parent won't allow her to get a job, saying she is too young.
• Minami has a great singing voice.
• Her favorite soda is an orange soda called "Ribbon Napolin", the soul drink of Hokkaido.
• Minami is one of two characters who appear in every episode in the anime in some capacity, the other being Tsubasa.
