AND THE WINNER IS…the one who pulls the weighted sled the longest measured distance. That’s how to win. Children astride a pedal tractor go as fast as they can, pedaling as hard as they can, to pull the sled as far as they can. Like the little engine that could, the faster you get going, the farther you’ll go. Good to know tips: Always look ahead. Go as fast as you can. When it starts getting hard, pedal harder.
There are five weight classes beginning at 40 pounds and ending at 90 pounds:
40-50 lbs.
51-60 lbs.
61-70 lbs.
71-80 lbs.
81-90 lbs.
Awards for first place winners in each class are sponsored by the Big Rock Plowing Match Association. The Big Rock Park District, partnering with the Association, sponsors the second place awards in each class.
After two years of intense planning, the first International Plowing Match was held in 1913 on Sunnybrook Farm in what is now downtown Toronto. It was a resounding success and provided the motivation to make this an annual event.
The five day long celebration of agriculture travels from Ontario community to community each year. Bruce County last hosted in 2008, and the 2026 match will be held in the same fields, west of Walkerton, where Bruce County's first match was held nearly five decades ago in 1976.

Europe's largest outdoor event, “The National Ploughing Championships” is set to return next year to the central and scenic location of Ratheniska, Co Laois from September 17th to 19th for the third year in a row.
Visitors can see competitors plow in the field. There are several different classes of plowing, taking place in different fields. The two main classes are horse plowing, and tractor plowing. Some different plowing classes for tractors include depend on how many furrows the plow has.
