What it Really means to “See You on Top” (2)

“Thanks for everything, Aless! See you on top, lad!” is a chain of messages I started getting when I resigned, sacked, or leave my job. In a WhatsApp group full of colleagues, this message gets old pretty fast. But it is a motivational speech of sorts. This shows how much they value you, too. After all, the world is full of hellos and goodbyes. For me, this is one of them.

“See You on Top,” aside from the blatant, sensual joke ( insert Michael’s “that’s what she said” joke here ), to actually see you on top means a lot.

I do mean in every single way of saying it. It is not just some words you throw around when your colleague finds a better place to work, or when they took leave or absence.

To see you on top means, that I will see you on top. It will be done. I will see you at the mountaintop in which we call life, and I will also be there. We will be both on top, after years of not seeing each other, after climbing our own battles and fighting our own fights, we will finally see each other again.

Sure, we all know that friends are not that forever. Sometimes months, years, sometimes maybe we never met again, but it gives a little bit of comfort in saying “I’ll see you on top”, because hey, who wouldn’t want all their closest friends and families to be successful? It’s not only a word, but also a prayer.

I have spent years in various offices — I may rack up hundreds of colleagues by now. Some I know dearly by heart, some were just acquaintances. Both of them deserves to be seen on top. Both of them have fought their battles and must continue climbing their own mountain. For that, I will gave them my sincerest thumbs up. Both of them.

“See you on top!” then, turns into an honest prayer, a little lift for your legs to continue on, a sincere pep talk, and a kind words from your friends. Looking back, I also received a lots of them. And every one of it contains love. It has been a great journey, but nowhere near the end. So I will continue receiving those texts again and again and again…But that’s okay. Because those are the little things that keeps you going. So to keep the theme in check with this article’s topics…

See you on top, everyone! ⚡🌟
