Index. In the Bullet Journal we combine the table of contents and a traditional index to keep the content in your notebook organized and easily accessible. The Bullet Journal Index is a hybrid of a traditional table of contents and the index.

Setting up your Index is easy. Simply leave the first couple pages of your notebook blank and give them the topic of “Index.” As you start to use your book, add the topics of your entries and their page numbers to the Index, so you can quickly find your them later.

A bullet journal index is one of the main pages you keep in your bullet journal, similar to a table of contents. An index is a place for you to record your spreads and the corresponding page numbers that you add to your bullet journal notebook so you can easily find them later.

The ideal page count for bullet journals varies, often ranging from 124 to 249 pages, depending on the manufacturer. For instance, The Official Bullet Journal, a product of collaboration between Leuchtturm and Ryder Carroll (the bullet journal's creator), consists of 185 pages.

A journal index, or a list of journals organized by discipline, subject, region and other factors, can be used by other researchers to search for studies and data on certain topics. As an author, publishing your research in an indexed journal increases the credibility and visibility of your work.

Click where you want to add the index. On the References tab, in the Index group, click Insert Index. In the Index dialog box, you can choose the format for text entries, page numbers, tabs, and leader characters. A journal that will be carried about should be somewhat compact and easy to get in and out of a bag or pack. 1-inch thick journals fit this purpose well with 200-300 writing pages. For desktop use, up to 1000 pages is possible, well-regarded as the World's Thickest Journals.

The standard bullet journal size is the A5 notebook (5.75” x 8.25”), but there is also the smaller A6 notebook (4.12'' wide x 5.75'') as well as the larger A4 notebook (8.27” × 11.69”), so there is a size for everyone!

I average around 2-3 books a year. That said, I find that starting with a fresh book on the first of the new year will help you catalog them much easier. Even if your Bullet Journal® book is only a quarter full, there is something inspirational and motivating about beginning the new year with a blank slate.
