Vault 42 (2024)

Vault 42 (Also known as Vault 420) is a hidden Vault-Tec vault nestled near what used to be the Lady Bird Johnston Wildflower Center, hidden among a large and unnatural growth of trees and plant life, almost resembling a jungle or a rain forest.

Origins[]

As part of the vault's experiment, they were given the prototype SuperG.E.C.K. and seeds of almost every kind known to man to potentially be a post-apocalyptic seed bank similar to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway. Also, no light bulbs of more than 40 watts were provided for seemingly no reason. The vault was filled with scientists, chemists, and botanists. Over generations, the original goal of the vault was somewhat lost along the way as at some point the decision was made to devote over 80% of the growing space and resources to growing a mutated strain of radioactive marijuana local to the vault the dwellers affectionately referred to as Wasteweed. It has since become their main source of trade, surpassing even cleanly grown food from the vault and the pancakes from St. Alfonso's Pancake Breakfast, the makeshift diner made out of the vault's cafeteria. Very few people find the vault, but they offer anyone who does a safe place to stay and a meal as long as they are peaceful.

The SuperG.E.C.K. Incident[]

After some experiments with the SuperG.E.C.K. resulted in what the vault scientists viewed as successes over the years, there was a large debate over whether a specific experiment first theorized by Dr. Audrey Whitmore would be wise. The experiment entailed using the SuperG.E.C.K. to enlarge plant life or food to a giant scale in an effort to retain the vault's original goal of saving the wasteland with a potentially massive and endless supply of clean food. After months of deliberation, the vault voted not to do the experiment as it could prove to be too dangerous. But Audrey and a group of scientists decided to take matters into their own hands and preform their tests while most of the others slept, confident they had done the calculations correctly. However, afters hundreds of years of overuse and due to the limited number of team members present, the SuperG.E.C.K. malfunctioned and blasted the room and surrounding area with tremendous amounts of radiation and energy. The result was several vault scientists, being turned into what would later be referred to as Weedeaters; violent, venomous monsters covered in Wasteweed. Dr. Audrey was at the center of the blast holding the SuperG.E.C.K. and as such was hit the hardest, turning her into a gargantuan mutant plant with a mouth lined with sharp, jagged teeth. Thankfully, The Convicts happened to be staying in the vault that night and by the skin of their teeth, they defeated the Weedeaters and destroyed Audrey 2000, with only minimal casualties in the vault. The SuperG.E.C.K. was given to the Convicts to ensure it was out of the vault and in good hands.
