We practice integrative medicine by offering traditional veterinary services alongside alternative therapies. Our alternative therapies are complementary to traditional medicine, providing us more resources to help keep your pet healthy and to treat chronic conditions and provide drug-free alternatives to pain management.

John Herrity
DVM, Practice Owner
Dr. Herrity has been caring for pets in Northern Virginia for over 30 years. He enjoys the diversity of veterinary medicine with a focus on ultrasound, internal medicine, and surgery. Over the years he has expanded his practice of medicine to include alternative and holistic therapies, including stem cell therapy, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation, and cold laser therapy, and Bicom bioresonance therapy. He is continually exploring new and exciting ways to identify our pets’ health issues and determine the best treatments to meet their needs.
In order to achieve his dream of working with animals, Dr. Herrity attended Virginia Tech and graduated with honors from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Herrity and his wife, Michelle, have two sons, Bryan and Patrick, and two daughters, Kelsey and Jessica. A Labradoodle named Bradley and a yellow lab named Merlin complete their family. Alex Colvin
DVM, Practice Owner
Dr. Colvin was raised in northern Virginia and graduated from Lake Braddock High School. He worked at Burke Animal Clinic while in high school until moving to Reston. He received his undergraduate degree in biology, summa cum laude, from Virginia Tech and DVM from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Colvin began practicing in 2001 at Clocktower Animal Hospital. He rejoined Burke Animal Clinic in October 2009. Dr. Colvin and his wife, Dana, live in Ashburn with their daughter, son, cat and dog.

Dr. Angela Bakanas grew up in Chicago and earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Univerisity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has been practicing in Northern Virginia since 2000. Her special interests include soft tissue surgery and internal medicine cases.
Dr. Bakanas and her husband have two daughters, two cats, two horses, and one dog. In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, reading, and baking.

Seth Cohen, DVM

Dr. Cohen has lived and worked in Northern Virginia since 2001. In 1996, he earned a BS in Zoology from NC State University, and in 2000, his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. Having grown up with golden retrievers, Dr. Cohen knew what he wanted to do after spending 6th grade career day with his family vet.
In his spare time, Dr. Cohen enjoys watching movies with his wife, Laura Jane, and their two kids. He also enjoys working in the yard and playing with his two dogs.

Regina, LVT
Regina joined the clinic family in 1991. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University. After joining the clinic and seeing the loving care we provide to our patients, she felt the need to contribute even more. She decided to earn an A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology from NVCC graduating Summa Cum Laude and was recognized by the Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technicians as Virginia’s student technician of the year. She was also inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges.
Regina, LVT
Regina joined the clinic family in 1991. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University. Regina primarily works in direct patient care: surgical assisting, dental hygiene, and the administration and monitoring of anesthesia. You’ll rarely see her in out-patient appointments. Regina is interested in raising the standard of care for all veterinary patients and to help make this a reality she is a member of both the Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technicians and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America. She has also completed the Fear Free Certification Program.
In her free time, she enjoys reading mysteries, gardening, walking, and learning about art and photography and is nearing an A.A.S. in Photography from NVCC. She’s the one who’s been making up the recent lobby slide show with your pet photos. She loves seeing your healthy pets enjoying life.
