Local motel gets screen & scream time in \ (2024)

NORTH FAYETTE TWP. — Guests at the Thunderbird Motel shouldn’t have expected a peaceful night’s sleep, not with a homicidal maniac with a pickaxe on the loose.

Screams galore ring out at the fictional motel during a pivotal scene in the new slasher film “My Bloody Valentine 3-D.”

That scene was shot over three days last spring in North Fayette Township at the Fort Pitt Motel, which manager Erma Dodd quickly points out is nothing like the motel in the movie.

She suspects they chose her motel, off Steubenville Pike, because off its roadside, mom-and-pop charm, which stands out from those abundant motel chains.

“There are very few of us left,” Dodd said.

Set in the fictional coal-mining town of Harmony, “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” filmed most of its scenes in a mine outside Tarentum, as well as downtown Kittanning.

One scene occurs on the Kittanning Bridge, which fares much better than in its last horror film, 2002’s “The Mothman Prophecies,” where the span was shown tumbling into the river.
