Help! My boy is very long but thin. I’ve tried every type of diaper but he still somehow manages to pee out of the side or top or back. Last night we had to switch his swaddle four times. Advice please?!

Are you making sure it’s pointed down before closing the diaper? My son peed out the sides a few times but once you have the diaper on you can reach in the sides with one finger and make sure those inner stretchy pieces are “flared out” and pull them where they are around the outter part of his butt. Sometimes they just fill the diaper so fast it leaks because it can’t absorb anymore. Or make sure it’s on tight enough, my husband didn’t realize that the straps could stretch far enough to actually touch each other on his tummy so my husband had his diaper way too loose lol there could be so many reasons it could be happening!

@Exelee,
I will try the pointing it down suggestion!. We try to make sure it’s tight but he is so long even when it’s tight and he moves there’s a gap

@unknown4523,
it’s not that if anything it seems like the diaper is too big already

With boys you have to make sure it’s pointed down that’s the only thing I can think of.

Like others said make sure it’s pointed down and also fold the top of the diaper over and inward it has been game changer for us.

Pointed down, side fluffs flared out, front of diaper pulled out and around by tabs so front of diaper and back of diaper are touching on sides of hips and no more than 1 finger between the inner barrier and his thigh, belly and back.. also make sure the back of the diaper is laying flat against his back and not folded. You might need to switch brands if you’re not getting a tight enough fit.. we can’t use pampers bc nugget has no butt to hold them up and we can’t get it tight enough at the back to prevent leaks.. Huggies have been the only ones that have worked for us so far

make sure the diaper itself is pulled up on him as much as you can. it might cover his belly button and go higher on his back than you would think. It makes the leg holes on the diaper smaller, gives more absorbable area before it leaks out the top front and back. We also have a thin but long girlie and we had the same issue with liquids leaking (ours was mostly poop unfortunately) before my mom gave me that tip for the diaper. 😅

Definitely make sure it is pointed straight down. And changing diapers every 2-4 hours, even overnight, keeps them from overfilling.

@colorado-preggo,
the pointing down thing has definitely helped! The diapers before were completely dry but his sheets and swaddle were drenched

We experienced this too! We ended up needing to go up a size and also make sure to have the flaps out and pointed down. We also feel like Huggies works best for us too!
