Everything you need to know about Vivid Sydney (2024)

Vivid Sydneyhas started, with a range of light installations, music performances, food festivals and experiences on offer for Sydneysiders and tourists over the next month.

The light show began at 6pm on Friday, and will light up the Sydney Skyline for the next 23 days, with light artists focusing on this year's theme "humanity."

It is the light festival's 14th year operating in a row.

When is Vivid Sydney?

Vivid Sydney started last night, May 24 at 6pm and runs until June 15.

Where is Vivid Sydney and what's on?

Vivid Sydney is spread across multiple locations in Sydney.

The light installations are dotted through the city, starting at Haymarket / Ultimo, to Darling Harbour, the CBD (Pitt Street), Barangaroo, Walsh Bay, Circular Quay and the Royal Botanical Gardens.

There are also a number of events scattered throughout the city, with Vivid Music taking place at the historic Machine Hall.

Vivid Food and Chef Series will be held in serval restaurants across the city, including Freds in Paddington and the Carriage Works.

How to get to Vivid Sydney

Public transport services will run to and from the festival with increased services to the city.

Commuters will still need to tap on and off at opal gates as public transport will not be free during the festival.

The public is advised to head into the city before lights out at 6pm to avoid congestion and road closures.

Parking is limited.

Road closures 

Several roads will close during the festival between 3pm to 12 am, with weekend and weekday closure times differing depending on the day.

Some roads will remain open until 5pm. 

Impacted roads include, but are not limited to, Pitt Street, George Street and parts of Bridge Street.

Is Vivid Sydney free?

Vivid Sydney offers a range of paid and free experiences.

Most of the light installations are free, with some ticketed exceptions like the immersive Dark Spectrum light journey, hosted within the abandoned Wynyard Train tunnels, which will set visitors back $35 per ticket.

Lightscape at The Royal Botanical Gardens will also be a ticketed event, setting guests back $30 per person.

For those looking for a more exclusive option, Vivid Sydney offers a range of paid experiences like private picnics and boat tours.
