How to Make

Start by preparing the meat mixture. In a large skillet over medium high heat brown the meat, then drain. Add the packet of taco seasoning and a can of diced tomatoes. Stir, then remove from heat.

Heat a skillet

Heat a clean pan, or griddle over medium heat.

Microwave the tortillas

Wrap a large tortilla in dampened paper toweling. Heat in the microwave for 40 seconds. Repeat before making the next crunch wrap. This helps the tortilla not crack when folding. Go ahead and skip this step if you’re using regular flour tortillas.

Wrap the crunch wrap

This can be the challenging part. If you simply start wrapping each side in starting on one side and gently working your way around while holding down the folded parts it goes smoothly. Once you do one you’ll get the hang of it.

When using gluten-free tortillas you’ll likely only fold the four sides. Make sure the pan has plenty of oil sprayed in it as this is what helps seal the crunch wrap shut.

Top with the smaller tortilla then bend the corners of the large tortilla around the top to seal shut.

Cook

Spray pan or griddle with plenty of non-stick cooking spray or brush with oil. The oil helps seal the crunch wrap supreme shut along with giving it a nice golden brown color.Cook crunch wrap for 3 minutes on each side, or until browned. Serve immediately.

Recipe Tips

  • Cheese Options:
    • Experiment with different cheese varieties or combinations for added richness. Pepper jack, cheddar, or a blend of Mexican cheeses can bring extra depth to the dish.
  • Greek Yogurt Substitute:
    • If you don’t have Greek yogurt, you can use sour cream or a mixture of sour cream and plain yogurt for a tangy element.
  • Vegetarian Option:
    • For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with black beans, refried beans, or a meat substitute. Ensure the seasoning complements the chosen protein.
  • Customize Toppings:
    • Encourage customization by placing additional toppings like sliced avocado, diced onions, or chopped cilantro on the table for individuals to add according to their preferences.
  • Sauce Variation:
    • Experiment with different sauces or salsas for dipping. A homemade chipotle mayo, guacamole, or a mango salsa can add a unique twist.
  • Prep in Advance:
    • Prepare the meat mixture and toppings ahead of time for a quicker assembly process. Store them in separate containers in the refrigerator until you’re ready to make the Crunch Wraps.
  • Creative Garnishes:
    • Garnish the final Crunch Wrap with chopped green onions, sliced olives, or a sprinkle of fresh herbs for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.

Cooking tips and suggestions for kids making this recipe.

  • Use a helper to fold the crunch wrap, it can be a little challenging to get the wrap to stay shut and place it into the pan by yourself.
  • Add extra flavor by stir a can of refried beans into the meat mixture for more flavor and fiber or use it in place of ground beef.
  • Cook on a griddle to make multiple crunchwraps at a time.
