SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. Our community has sustained the loss of one of its most highly re-Hggjgsgi spected jurists L- and of a valued friend and bene-' factor. Judge David Milton Ganly died peacefully at his Redlands home on August 4th after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Born to Milton and Ruth Ganly in Ridgewood, NJ. in 1937, their son David thrived upon his early life experiences in the New York City metropolitan area.

David was graduated from Yale University in 1959 after having attended the Mount Hermon School in western Massachusetts. At Yale, David took up residence at prestigious Pierson College. He rowed varsity eights for all four years, and he immersed himself in his architecture major, which would later prove to be a sustaining lifetime avocation of his. Having enrolled in Army ROTC at Yale, David was commissioned upon graduation as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

After completing his Airborne Training at Ft Benning, GA and gaining credentialed status as a Staff Officer at the U.S. Army Intelligence School in Fort Holabird, the young Lt Ganly was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1962, he was deployed to Vietnam where he was assigned to a Special Forces unit as an Intelligence Officer. While on duty as a MAAG Advisor in the Viet Cong stronghold of Qaung Ngai province, Lt JANET ARTHUR RABY LAS VEGAS Janet Arthur Raby, 63, of Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012. A native of the North Carolina mountains, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Arthur.

Janet graduated from Enka High School, Enka NC and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In North Carolina she taught elementary school, notably at the Little River School. Janet moved to Las Vegas in 1972 when her husband was stationed at Nel-lis AFB. In Nevada she was a well-loved GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) teacher, last teaching at the Helen Marie Smith Elementary school before retiring in 1999. Janet was a fine chef who loved to be at table with friends.

She was an artist, working with polymer clay, beadwork, pottery, and many other media. She enjoyed traveling in countries from Canada to China, Italy to Uruguay, Israel to Australia, plus all over the United States. Her love of life, quick wit, and ready laugh will be missed. Logan Cook, 89, a former resident of Asheville, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 11, 2012. She was born in Bostic, North Carolina on July 23, 1923 to the late John and Bessie Neighbors Logan. Emma was a loving person and a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend during her eighty nine years of life. Emma was a faithful Jehovah's Witness until her death. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 51 years, David Eugene Cook; brothers, Enos, Aaron and Roosevelt; sisters, Rhoda Edgerton, Maggie Brown and Eunice Hampton.

David distinguished himself without equivocation during his more than 20 years of public service in the local community not just as a 'judge" but as a person of fairness, of immense integrity, and of caring. David earned and greatly enjoyed the unrequited respect, admiration, and. of all. friendship of the fellow jurists with whom he shared the bench. Judge Ganly is survived by his loving wife, Norene Green, and his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Craig Miller of Walnut Creek.

He is also survived by his daughter, Sa-mantha Hicks of Asheville, N.C; his sons, Winston of La Quinta and Maxwell of Knoxville, by his step-children, Amie and James Hofmann of Aliso Viejo and Brenden and Jill Green of Redlands; by his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Erik and Lauren Hicks, Sophia Ganly, Keller, Katie and Sawyer Hofmann, and Abbey and Jake Green. Arnold died on August 14, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. Stan, whose birth name was Ignacy S. Abramowicz, was born in Lodz, Poland on July 23, 1927, and was the only son of Maria and Julian Abramowicz. During World War II, he and his parents were forcibly transported from Poland to Russia, where they survived two years in a Russian re-education camp before emigrating first to Iran, and ultimately to Tel Aviv, Israel, where he completed high school. Stan then came to the United States by himself and put himself through school at the University of Washington and Harvard Business School.

Stan served for two years in the United States Army, as a military intelligence officer in Germany. After a successful career in corporate American, Stan and his wife, Linda, moved to Waynesville, North Carolina, in 1986, where they owned and operated Grandview Lodge until 2001. Stan was a longstanding member of the Greater Haywood County Chamber of Commerce and served as President in 1990. He also served in the Sunrise Rotary dub of Waynesville, where he held a number of positions including President Stan volunteered for several years with the Andean Rural Health Commission and the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority. Stan was an avid bridge player, who for 26 years played regularly with the GANLY Ganly was wounded by enemy sniper fire during an ambush, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Lt Ganly recovered to complete his tour of duty in Vietnam having been promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant and ultimately to Captain. Upon exiting the service in 1963, David returned to New York City where he married and began raising a family. While in New York, he worked for IBM for a number of years. Ultimately bored by Big Blue, David continued to work in computer technology during his employment with the New York Herald Tribune. At 40yrs of age, he answered the call of that infamous Jealous Mistress that is the Law and migrated to North Carolina with his wife and three children in "Go South, young man, Go South?" In 1980 at the age of 43 years, David received his JD from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, N.C.

He was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and became the founder of the highly successful Asheville litigation firm of Ganly Ramer. The energetic young 54 year old attorney decided to turn the focus of his career to the judiciary, and in 1991 he accepted an appointment to the Federal bench as an Administrative Law Judge. David's duty assignment to the Social Security Administration brought him West to San Bernardino where he wisely decided to take up residence in nearby Redlands and to marry his loving what's her She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Paul E. Raby; a daughter, Kate Robledo (husband Daniel) of Carson City NV; and a much-beloved granddaughter, Lucy Robledo. She is also survived by three brothers, Charles (Chipper) Arthur, of Hawaii; George Arthur of Roanoke VA; and Lewis Arthur of Weaverville NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock AR 72202. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 17, at 10 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Asheville. Rodney Hagans, pastor of Trinity UMC, and Rev. Mary Caldwell will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service.

CANDLER Doyle James 'Jimmy" dark, 44, of Luther Candler, died Monday, August 13, 2012. A native of Buncombe he was a son of Helen Martin Clark and of the late Doyle James Clark, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Lee Clark andjames "Eddie" Clark. In addition to his mother, Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Carol Stevenson Clark; a daughter, Brittany Clark, of Candler, a stepson, Ryan Colagera-kis of Charlotte; and a granddaughter, Kinleigh Shayne.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late David Porter Brown and Mollie Caldwell Brown. Sally was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Trantham in 2001 and all her siblings.

She retired from American Enka Corporation and was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church. Sally was a very loving mother and extremely dedicated wife, caring for her husband during his last years. She was always thinking of others and was a dear neighbor to those who lived by her. A very special thanks to Care Angels for their devoted love and care, as well as to Medwest Haywood Hospice. She is survived by one daughter, Karen Parton of Black Mountain; many nieces and nephews and the McQure children who were near and dear to her heart, and also a WENDELL SALES BROOKS BENNETT LEESBURG, FLA.

Wendell Sales Brooks Bennett, 89, went to be with Jesus on August 11, 2012. She dearly loved her church family and was known by many as Sweet Wendy. She was born in Barnestown, N.C. and lived in Hawthorne Park of Leesburg, Fla. She worked for Dayton Rubber Company of Warrens-ville, N.C.

from 1948 to 1960. After moving to Orlando, Fla. she became financial secretary at North Park Baptist Church and was there 15 years. Her first husband Mr. Brooks passed away and she met her second husband Thomas Bennett, Jr.

and they were married in 1974. They moved to Leesburg and joined the First Baptist Church of Okahumpka. She is survived by her husband, Tom Bennett, Jr. of Leesburg; son, Phillip Brooks of Marion, N.C.; daughter, JoAnn Turner of Fruitland Park; very special thanks to her mentor and friend, Reid Brown. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gar-rett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services.
