King David set the example in Psalm 5:3, “In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.” And yet, with thoughts of yesterday holding us back, questions of today pressing in, and fears of tomorrow looming over, we can find it difficult to arrange our needs into coherent requests.
What if we were to approach God’s Word as a blueprint for our prayers? From cover to cover, His Word is packed full of the prayers of His people. Even the literature written as stories, poems, lament — passages with neither a “Dear God” nor an “Amen” — these also can guide our prayer life. Here are three Scriptures to inform our prayers each morning.
Prayer for the Presence of God
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Prayer: “Dear God, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. Help me to approach Your throne boldly. Equip me to battle the lies that say You are uninterested in the details of my life, or that You are angry with me. Instead, remind me of the promises that You care about every facet of my days, and You are gracious toward me. Help me to draw near each morning knowing You are my friend and Father. Thank you for wanting me, and thank you that You are eager to meet with me each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Prayer for the Peace of God
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
Prayer: “Dear God, Your peace is like none other. Thank you for offering a peace bigger than any fear, any anxiety, or any trial. I pray this great peace of Yours will guard every moment of my day. Defend me against attacks of fear and anxiety. Defend me against lies and discouragements. Remind me, in the hardest of circ*mstances, that Your peace is all encompassing. Help me to live in that peace today, and to know it deeper than ever before. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Prayer for the Power of God
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know … His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 1:18-20
Prayer: “Dear God, You displayed Your great power when You raised Jesus from the dead, declaring victory over the death in my life. Help me to experience that very power today. In every decision, in every trial, in every hardship, help me to know a power not my own, but one that comes only from You. Display Your power in my life that not only I may see it, but also those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
